A fisherman´s Jänisjoki

You catch fish best with the lure in the water!

The three tributaries of Jänisjoki come together in Lake Loitimo. The power of the currents vary considerably at different times of year. In the spring floods many parts of the river look radically different from in low rainfall summer periods. And below Lake Loitimo the flow of the river is affected by hydro-electric power stations. The water of the Jänisjoki is brownish due to humus leached from marshlands. Indigenous fish species include perch, pike, burbot, lavaret and roach. Trout is also found on some reaches. You can catch bream and pike-perch.

Remember your fishing permits!

Almost the whole Jänisjoki region is suitable for lure fishing. With the fishing permits you get a map of the area and the times of close seasons. You should be aware that fishing for salmon with hook and worm at rapids or places with a strong current or with a wooden float and multible lines is not allowed.

The minimun catch size for trout is 40 cm, pike-perch 40 cm, and grayling 30 cm. Permits (2011)are 10 € per day,15 € for 2 days, 20 € a week, 30 € for a season.

Fishing in the area is well supervised, and it is advisable to keep receipts for permits with you on your fishing trips.
